Getting close to release time for new xbox just wondering what everyone thinks about each system and which one you'll be getting.

I'll get the 360.

a. I'm a big Xbox fan, prefer it to the playstation
b. the playstation is the market leader, and I have no desire to help increase it's lead
c. better Lucasarts titles on xbox
d. looks great!

I'm still not happy that the X360 is being released so early - just to beat Sony. I think it's an ill-informed decision.

Xbox 360 is going to be a kick ass machine out of the gate.

Personaly I prefer Xbox to Sony myself, but.....

Lets not forget Nintendo, the Revolution console is going to have a wide range of apeal, especialy for old school gamers like myself. I may have to own a Revolution as well.

Only time will tell though.

I have to say, after seeing that long trailer for Metal Gear Solid 4 for the PS3 I was realy impressed. I am thinking from a standpoint of sheer grapics power, that maybe Sony was being honest, and they may be the machine to beat. It will be interesting to see.

Xbox 360 is still a little powerhouse though, and there are some rumors that you may not be seeing the PS3 till closer to 2007 instead of the March 2006 launch it may be a full year or more away, so that being said, if there are a few titles on Xbox 360 of intrest, it will be hard to pass up.

Once again though, how about that Nintendo revolution, it will aparently be less money, some rumors that the games will even cost a little less instead of getting the mark up to $60 like the others. Its backwards compatable with its classic games library though the net. It will have a revolutionary control scheme with a motion sense controler / pointer. I think its going to be amazing as well.

Good Point,

Like I said, if games on the 360 look apealing to you, no reason to wait. All depends on the games released.

That PS3 is going to rock the pants off of anything. The stats alone for the system make you wonder what the starting price is and how they are going to keep it reasonable. Ill be getting that, if i can afford it. But it's going to blow the pants off the Xbox. We have already got a good compeditor to Halo, and it's comming out on the PS3, KillZone.

candmf2005
October 11th, 2005, 11:07 PM
We will have to see, KillZone looks nice, but is was the E3 fottage in real time game engine, probably not, it was a pre render.

Now MSG4 was real time, and that looked hot, but then again Gears of War for the Xbox 360 looks off the hook, but, only time will tell.

Personaly, Im going to hold onto my old systems, and pray the get Zelda Twilight Princess out sooner than later I think.

Xbox 360 looks nice, but I dont think there are more than two launch games that have me realy excited.

idk.. i dont like the junkbox 360.. its kinda weird. I mean all the new systems are weird but I work at wal mart and they gave us one a few weeks ago so I've messed around with it a bit. It just pisses me off the power supply to it is external to keep the machine it self lighter. The external powersource is the size of a brick and weighs about as much as 1.2 the original xboxs weight. It's pretty ridicouls.
The PS3 might be the same way.

Also even though both systems push a lot more power than the originals, the graphics arnt a HUGE increase, the main thing is that they can do like multiple things at once.. like the cars look amazing and theres a large croud around where each person is an individual person and looks great too where with the older systems you might have the shiny car and a croud, but each person wont have great detail at a distance.

Price tags are up there too on the beasts so ya gotta pick wisly. I mean I myself dont like microsuck for numerous reasons, but for a lot of gamers their choice of games is on one console or another.. mostly game choice is the biggest factor.

And on the note of the Revolution.. I love nintendo, but I worry about what they are doing. I have major respect for them, but the system is looking at a way longerrelease date for many reasons.

ok.. done rant

Consoles Hardware allways loose money, the main objective is to have a instal base to sell software and some add ons that tend to be very profitable. Software especialy, consider this, games are making more money than films now, and the avg. game design budget is less than one tenth of what it requires to make a hollywood film, so thats why they sell the console for a loss, in hopes you will buy enough software over the life of the machine to help make it profitable.

I read a funny article a couple of months ago, that finaly Sony was truning a profit on PS2 hardware, then I laughed, realizing that the real profit comes from JaK, Ratchet and Clank, and Credos the God of War, thats who shows Sony the money, the hardware is just the platform that makes it all possible.

Seeing as they are being launched almost a year apart I'm guessing the X360 will sell well for the first 6-9 months. Then as the launch for the PS3 gets closer people won't bother with the X360.

Then MS will drop the price of the X360 to coincide with the PS3 and the pre-Christmas 06 sales, etc; etc;

In short, I'd put my money on Sony for the long game.

I'll choose The Phantom, if it ever gets released. But to stick with the status quo here, definately the PS3. I've even heard there are plans to include Linux as the OS running on the PS3 although I'm assuming this is just some warped rumour.

Would be a very nice, refreshing change though.

From someone who has all the gaming systems hers the run down

xbox360 definatly has a leading edge on PS3 as far as game titles and online play but PS3 is kicking ass and taking names in graphics and having the bluray as part of the PS3 is definatly making the higher price tag worth it as long as you own a HD tv being able to watch bluray movies is a definate plus there as just a plain bluray player will cost upwards of 1000.00 and the PS3 is only 599 for the 60 gig model it comes with built in wireless so it beats the xbox in that arena and the bluray coming as part of it beats 360 as well since to get the hd experiance on a 360 will cost you another 199 bucks....

But let me tell you this

the code name revolution ACTUALLY THE WII now :)

Is one of the most fun exiciting gaming systems to hit the market I would put my money on this bad boy taking over... witeher your 2 or 102 this gaming console cheap 250.00 bucks if you can find them is just plain fun and will get your lazy butts off the couch and into the game... I just love it.. I actually kept the PS3 out in my office and now am wishing i put the WII out there and let the kids open the PS3 instead.....

Anyways just wanting to let everyone know my opinions on all the 3 big gaming systems

a quick run down here

for immediate online playing go with the 360
to wait a little for awesome games and online and get the bluray go PS3

If your in it just to have some REAL fun and even loose a little weight in the process grab yourself a nintindo WII its weeeeeeeeeeeee funnnnnn....

Okay, here's the run down on the stats of them.

The PS3 has advertised that it has double the graphics capability of the 360, but in fact, it doesn't, they're about evenly matched. Also, xbox live makes movie renting, downloading arcade games and more much easier than the PS3 has it.

That's just a really short run down, but in all fairness, they are both about evenly matched, so I'd get whatever is cheaper right now, and wait to get the more expensive one...

Halo 3 is due in november for the 360.

*wink wink*

ballarke
March 16th, 2007, 09:50 PM
Griim, hate to say it, but you're a little off. The graphics are better with the PS3, and here's why.

The 360 is nothing more than a modified X-Box with some upgrades. The original X-Box is HD capable. It can support up to 1080i, just like the 360, while the PS3 supports 1080p, which is a higher-quality video display for televisions that support it. This is one reason why Microsoft is upgrading the 360, to support 1080p and build in an HD-DVD drive. The PS2, by contrast, supported at most 720p, which is slightly less quality than 1080i.

Both editions of the PS3 are also completely backward compatible to the PS2 and PS1, just like the Wii is completely backward compatible to the GameCube, whereas the 360 Pro has selective backward compatibility to the X-Box. The 360 core has no backward compatibility.

Plus with a little technical know-how, you can install another operating system on the PS3. There are packaged Linux distributions for the PS3, and with virtualization software, people have run Windows XP on a PS3 (you can find pictures and videos all over the 'net demonstrating this).

Hate to say it, but Halo 3 doesn't take the 360 over the PS3. The PS3 just offers too much out of the box, and its full backward compatibility means you can play well-known franchises like Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Sly, and many more on the PS3.

Halo and Halo 2 are guaranteed compatible on the 360, but you need the more expensive 360 pro hardware to do that. And the whole list of compatible titles makes up a small percentage of titles. To ensure I can still play the games I have, I'd have to keep my X-Box around, whereas with the PS3, I can get rid of the PS2 and not worry. With the Wii, I was able to get rid of the GameCube without any problems.

The PS3 is just awesome, and it'll be even better when I get the first two Pirates of the Caribbean movies on Blu-Ray this May with the third one expected on Blu-Ray before the end of the year. It won't be on HD-DVD, meaning you can't watch them on a 360.

ballarke
March 17th, 2007, 09:59 PM
Yeah, plenty. But when I'm about to purchase a $600 piece of equipment like the PS3, I want to ensure there isn't going to be any post-purchase feelings of regret. It was the same when I purchased my television, which cost me $1,300. So when I decided to go with the PS3 over the XB360, I knew it was a good decision because of all of the research I did beforehand.

The only thing I didn't anticipate before purchase was that the PS3 remote uses Bluetooth technology, meaning my Harmony remote wouldn't work with the PS3 because of it's lack of IR, same with the Wii. But it's the backward compatibility of the PS3 that had me sold.

Ill tell ya what I had an XBOX 360...and I liked it alot. BUT the PS3 I bought with the 60GB hard drive is fantastic...I have over 300 songs, 3 movies, and 30 video clips plus tons of PS2 and PS3 game saves, and still have TONS of space on my hard drive...60gb versus 360s 20gigs.... PS3!!!!!!! Oh and saints row hits the PS3 in may....SWEEEEET

ballarke

Plus you can upgrade the hard drive with any standard laptop SATA hard drive, on either the 20gb or 60gb models. So if you started running short on space, you can upgrade the hard drive. I'm sure there are detailed instructions online.

chris21982
March 21st, 2007, 02:08 PM
One thing also ballarke hit on a little is the ps3 is also a blu-ray disc player the 360 is not. If you go out to buy a blu-ray player they are like $1000 so its worth it just for that. But your tv must be compatible to get the blu-ray quality from the movies. That 3 times the size hard drive 20gb to 60gb.

ballarke
March 21st, 2007, 04:34 PM
Whereas getting the 360 with the HD-DVD player is about the same price as the lowest cost HD-DVD player, around $500, assuming the core 360 can use the HD-DVD player. Otherwise it's cheaper to get the HD-DVD player if that's all you're into.

But I did see a combo HD-DVD/Blu-Ray player. It's the LG BH100, and it's $1299.95 direct. That's a value right there since the combo price of the lowest HD-DVD player and Blu-Ray is about the same ($800 for Blu-Ray, $500 for HD-DVD), so you're getting one box instead of two separate ones.

At the rate the game selection is going with ps3, I'll likely be doing the xbox 360 instead, ff XIII may, MAY be going multi-platform, at least gamespot hinted at it, I'm not yet impressed by the ps3 graphics so far, but it all depends on the future games and their engines, time will tell.... Halo 3 ftw

ballarke

Falcon and I have considered a 360 recently as well, only because there are games available that she wants to play. For me, I'm only interested in the HD-DVD player since there are movies I'm interested in that are available only on HD-DVD.

But I doubt that FFXIII will be available for the 360 given some of the details available about the game. Supposedly the storyline is going to span 10 years, and take full advantage of the 50 GB storage availability of a Blu-Ray disc. XB 360s still use the DVD format for their game discs, and at just 9 GB, I doubt they'll have the capacity to hold all of what FF XIII is supposedly going to offer.

If they do take it to the 360 as well, they're going to have to span it across several discs for the 360. Even if the 360 Elite had an HD-DVD drive built in, it still doesn't have the capacity of Blu-Ray, meaning multiple discs would probably still be required. Given what the development costs for the game have probably reached, it really would not surprise me if they do take it multi-platform.

But one game I've got my eye on for the next-gen consoles is Kingdom Hearts III, which will hopefully stay on the Sony consoles. An announcement regarding the Kingdom Hearts franchise is due out this summer. While it would be fun on the Wii, Kingdom Hearts has become huge, and the PS3 would provide it the capability to become great.

Oh and the new Ratchet and Clank, which is supposed to be exclusive to the PS3, is going to look so nice. I downloaded the Hi-Def trailer on my PS3 last week, and it's definitely on the buy (not rent) list. I hope they'll also make a Sly 4 for the PS3 as well.

The 360 does offer some good titles, but given the hardware problems they've had, and the lack of backward compatibility, I'm still not convinced that I should buy one. Yeah, they're not rolling out PS3 games at a very high rate, but that is expected to change this summer and fall.

Well then I guess you don't care because the PS3's controllers have left out the vibration option due to a patent infringement claim that Sony lost.

I'm on a toss up between the 2 I own both. While the 360 does have the library the ps3 has the power. But more so I'm starting to doubt the 360 seeing as recently I've had to send kira to get fixed. Yes I named my 360 as I've the ps3. I'm sure that we've all heard of the red ring of death which prompted M$ to extend the warranty from 90 days to a whole year. With that I've had both the same amount of time but for the 360 to already need repairs. It makes me question their true motivations.

On the PS3 note, I found an adapter at GameStop that allows you to use your PS/2 controllers with the PS/3. Since PS/3 controllers don't have the vibration capability, it's a great way to get the rumble action back when playing PS/2 games on the PS/3.

I have both as well. PS3 only gets better with new releases, the included Blue Ray player, and of course the free online.
To buy an xbox with that much memory, HD dvd, wi-fi, and x-box live is hundreds more.
The games play the same on both systems. And the x-box overheats and breaks.
My x-box just went down and they are fixing it free past the warrenty. I don't think they want people suing, and they built them to overheat. You just have to call in the repair.

PS3 is releasing the rumble controller in the new year in the U.S.
You can allready get them in Japan. Or ebay

i have the xbox360 Halo 3 Edition. its nice until, i got the ring of death.. but other than that, compare to play station, you do have more options in the xbox360 even if your not connected to live.
I will be getting the PS3 (80g) pretty soon.. there are a few games that i'm dieing to get like Metal Gear Solid 4. and more...

i have both 360 and ps3 and id say 360 is a huge waste of money and since bluray is winning the war getting a 360 hd-dvd drive is a waste of time and money also

We have both now as well, and I prefer the PS3 to the 360, simply because there are more franchises available for the PS3 that I like. I've also heard rumors that Microsoft will be releasing a Blu-Ray enabled 360.
