My favorite overall, would have to be Morrowind. and playing it on the computer was overall more fun than playing on X-box, because of all of the cool Mods you can download for it.

YUP, all the Naked mods + mass cheats + max stats etc lol. It was good, but I like ' Postal 2 ' with all its mods better ;) . The original version with the severance mod + nude / nuke mods are ACE wahahaha
But then again as for the past, I loved Defender on my Atari games machine, Jet Set willy on my Speccys, Frontier and Lemmings on my ST's, AvP on my Atari Jaguar, but to top the lot is my PC as we can customise them in whatever hardware way we want for ALL our gaming needs  . Love ' C+C generals ' and Heavy Metal Fakk2 ' , 'Etherlords ' + ' Alice ' etc. Played THOUSANDS of games since my 1st bat + ball ingersol games machine as a wee child lol. But games have come a LONG way thankfully + PC rules cos of all the mods U can get and do AND not forgetting the latest Grafix cards and the mega monitors so we can play in some AMAZING screen rez's with tons + TONS of detail

All of the games you mentioned also come on X-box too. I liked manhunt the first two times i played it, but that naked pig-man with the chainsaw at the end was kinda weird. I like Resident Evil 4 on game cube it's the best resident evil from the series i think. does anyone know how much the starting price for the PSP is, i was thinking about getting one.

PSP has a design flaw that sony says is "supposed to be there"... a misaligned sensor under the D-Pad - i wouldnt have a PSP thrown at me.... well, i would, but id put it right up on ebay for about a tenner.
XBox is my format of choice.... awesome graphics, top games, most powerful system and no cliche'd blur like the PS2 or sharp Zbuffing like the Gamecube's ATI system. Lets face it, Sony has the marketting umpfh to shift dry shit if need be. PS2 is the least powerful of all current systems, and for any game to look half decent it needs that awful echo'd blur - drives me nuts or id have one myself just to play tekken 5 - as it stands, new software is coming out so XBox can play PS2 titles, cept with graphical enhancements (think ps1 games on dreamcast.... using the bleem disc "ya i have em all") - and since the prices are about the same, ill wait for that.

well horn the psp might have a mis alligned sensor but dude its fuckin cool as hell
and I love it.....
:)
I recommend it 100% for traveling so far anyways.... been playing it for about 2 hrs so give me another day to come to a full conclusion...

Oh i totally agree Tom, its a top toy visually, but watch what happens when that missaligned sensor fux up and its juuuuuuuuust outta warranty...... Given that a nimber of em had to be recalled for the same sensor fault, i dont see that particular part having longevity with regards to frequent use over say.... a year....
Other than that, top stuff, Wipeout Pure is just announced, that should whizz round like a mad dervish !! - till the pad goes, and it maybe costs half the value of the machine to replace.... which, will be what the machine is worth 2nd hand anyway...
Its a throw away culture Tom.. like a shaver at $40 whose foils need replacing costing $30 - may as well ditch it n buy a new one.
Still, whatever happens, good luck with it - worth a search on the net about it though even though its a small percentage of returns; just so youre in the picture so to speak.

Nearly 5,000 units are returned to Sony for buggy button; Kutaragi unapologetic about the handheld's design.
TOKYO--About 4,800 Japanese PSPs have been returned to Sony due to problems with the handheld's square button, according to a recent interview with Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutaragi in Nikkei Business magazine.
Kutaragi acknowledged that the button is less responsive than the others, in part because it's so close to the PSP's 480x272 screen. Because there isn't enough room to put the square button's detection switch directly underneath, it's off to the right, making it less responsive--and sometimes causing it to stick.
Nikkei Business reported that, to date, .6 percent of the 800,000 shipped units have been returned to Sony for repair. Kutaragi was unapologetic about the issue: "This is the design that we came up with. There may be people that complain about its usability, but that's something which users and game software developers will have to adapt to. I didn't want the PSP's LCD screen to become any smaller than this, nor did I want its machine body to become any larger.
"The button's location is [architectured] on purpose," Kutaragi added. "It's according to specifications. This is something that we've created, and this is our specification. There was a clear purpose to it, and it wasn't a mistake."
Offering additional testimony praising the handheld, Kutaragi said, "I believe we made the most beautiful thing in the world. Nobody would criticize a renowned architect's blueprint that the position of a gate is wrong. It's the same as that."

One other downside to the PSP until its homebrew hacked btw - poor file format support, if youre looking for games, its top shit, if youre looking for video and windows tools, maybe think about a Gizmo instead..... for plain video use, you can get 9 inch screens on ebay for about the same price.
The bottom line really is shop around and buy for the purpose u have in mind. Gizmo is all singing all dancing but has a dissapointing resolution - that may change before it hits british shores though.

Well it depends on what you want really in the long run.
there is a market for everything, if games were only about gameplay and longevity then we'd still be buying super nintendo's and atari 2600's etc.. but its not.. we are obsessed with bigger and better looks, and smaller and more compact machines.
pc's though large and cumbersome give you the BEST graphics, sound, mods, compatibility, online, customer service etc .. its the ultimate media bitch and nothing without a keyboard a mouse and a upgradable motherboard is ever going to defeat it.
the ps2, xbox, gc, psp, ndc etc all that stuff all well and good for now.. depends really one what games you like to play.. xbox is more adult, ps is middle of the road and gc is very much child orientated ... handhelds are convenience only and alot of fun but i have never known any of them to have a shelf life longer than a year (except for the now legendary gameboy.. but take a look at its competition back in the day to realise why it lived so long.. atari lynx?.. fuck off!...) and also of course we cant forget them little games on your mobile phones now either.. some of them are technical marvels too (tomb raider.. on a mobile!?! w00t!) .... touch screen technology, no more of this backlit lcd crap its all digital now and how could i forget laptops?.. i dont have a preference.. i own everything i have done since i was a small boy, i still have a zx81 a atari2600, a amstrad cpc6128 with green or colour monitor, ive got a c64, a atari jaguar, a 3d0 a fucking wonderswan for god sake .. technology doesnt pass my by i absorb it use it and then pack it away like any good consumer... bring on the terrabyte generation i say.
then you lot really will be cacking your pants at just how real shit looks... games will blur into real life.. and moral issue's will take control and eventually games will be so real those with impressionable minds wont be able to distinguish and then .. well we'll just have to go back to bat and ball games wont we.

Even I loved the bat and ball games as a kid in the early 70's Wa ha ha ha :D . You got C64, I went the speccy way lol. Hey, didn't and doesn't it still amase you that PC trech has basically ONLY JUST caught up with the atari Jaguar for 64bit ha ha ha, I p*ss myself laughing when i think of that after all these years lol.

July 15th, 2005, 09:56 AM
yeah.. i piss myself laughing when i think about the jaguar.. i dont laugh so much when i remember spending £40 on some of its pathetic games (katsumi ninja anyone?).. but if your gonna collect things collect them correct i say.. got all 54 releases for the jaguar and only 1 of them is worth its salt and even thats shit now (alien vs predator.. cardboard cut out city) .. i had a speccy/amstrad/c64 so i was pretty much well happy during the 8bit revolution.. i have 3 copies of many many games (the c64 is probably the most difficult to get games for lately due to it being still damn popular so the things are classed as collectables.. the others "throwable" .. shame that cos the amstrad had some pretty impressive games on it and by far the best version of elite outside of the original bbc acorn version).
tell ya what go get an emulator and download "rebelstar" and see what difference that has to the latest squad based shooters ... (apart from asphetics very very little.. its suprising how similar games are still in all but looks).

i have a bunch of systems but i love my ps2, i agree that ffVII is the bomb, also goldeneye on the n64 is great too. for ps2 LifeLine is an awsome game for any who have played it. for those who haven't it is a resident evil style game that requires you to talk into the usb headset and the character follows your voice commands, it is an awsome and revolutionary concept if you haven't seen it you should check it out.

Depending on game can be quite a bit of chat and cursing.........I play a lot of Halo 2 online and w/ that lot of cursing and ,unfortunately, racist remarks as well.........best way to get around it is not buy the headset and turn volume all the way down so he cannot hear conversations. Of course he won't hear the game either...there are good people online unfortunately other people don't know how to behave.

Xbox Live I dont think is realy intended for kids that young.
People do tend to curse and be jerks in general. One of the main reasons I spend so little time with it.
Its a sad commentary, but like only 10% of the folks you talk to are actualy polite, kind people. Im not knocking folks for light "trash talk". I mean 90% of people curse and you, and call you names, sometimes slurs, its a shame.
If it were my nine year old, I would pass to be honest.
