View Full Version : Star Wars Vs Star Trek

I know this is way off topic but I couldn't resist. It's a question that has plagued mankind for over a quarter of a century.
So which is best and why?
Also, if you have anything to say on either of these two then here is the place.

-- star wars for sure.
1. star trek is this neverending saga that plagued tv for too many years. how many generations does there have to be !!!
2. star wars had Ewoks. so furry. so cute.
3. C3PO - how funny and gay was that droid?
4. luke skywalker is a babe. princess lea was a hottie.
5. in my opinion, star trek was just plain boring.
6. light sabres are the ultimate weapon.

for true zealotic popularity you cant go far wrong than star trek.
for effect jiggery pokery you cant fault star wars.. and the trench run scenes are still some of the most exciting bits of cinema ever made....
but i dunno... modern startrek gets ass fucked by old starwars
and old startrek makes the new starwars its bitch.. in my opinion so.. erm
ok!..
lets put it in this context.. if you was to stick starwars and star trek into a caldari death pit i think they would kill each other.. it'd be a draw ... too close a call.. but personally id go for star trek.

didnt see that there miss lol.. yeah i wouldnt mind a lightsabre for cutting the sunday roast.. the tall shrub's.. creating a soft top for my car.. my next door neighbour... and it'd make a great table lamp.
but cmon!... photon torpedo's made the ULTIMATE noise when they were fired.. altogether now "PZZZUT!!!!"

I vote for Star Wars. I thought it was so creative and clever the first time I saw it. Seemed fresh and new whereas Star Trek to me always felt old and already done. Just my humble opinion.....

Star Wars, without question. Star Trek: TNG was pretty damn good though.

Star Wars wins hands down in my book. Star wars was always original and exciting, where star trek was usually corny and boring in my opinion. Star trek the new generation was a vast improvement over the old, but star wars would still win out.

and yeah true about the light sabre thing.. them little hand phaser things were shit
oh and that noise the tie fighter makes as it flys past.. eeeeeeuuuuuuuurrrr!!!.. so fucking cool!.... still a draw though ^^ lol.

i reckon the new comming movies of Starwars and Startrek suck. They both dont have allot of room for story in it.
I enjoy looking at TOS, TNG and DS9 of Startrek and the 3 original first films of starwars more. Then the new ones of the Starwars sfeer, they suck man they dont have a story its so boreing, nice effects but nothing more. :huh:
Startrek even though might be a plague however i prefer looking startrek to Starwars since i love it but people have differences so its only naturally people also like different movies.
However these days i dont look much tv, cause its all lame. I did watch the Sixth Sence the other day, i reckon thats a movie we could talk about with having a good story even though it was blown up by Hollywood.

Star Trek first aired April 14,1964 i think and ran for 25 years but did ya know in the pilot episoid spock,or Lenord Nemoy ,was cast as captin but they didnt think
(Gene Roddenbury) that he was beleveable as a captin,so they drop him one in rank,and gave him pointy ears and he became spock

I Vote the Star Wars saga (including the expanded universe). Its the story of good vs evil. It encompases all 3 classical fiction plots. (bonus points if you can name them)
Star wreck is like a redneck/pikey adventure - a bunch of people floating around in a fancy winnebago looking to get into some trouble. Come on a vulcan neck massage what kind of shit is that.
For TNG fans: Will Wheaton is a real life computer geek.

I look at it this way, When I look at episodes of Star Trek fromthe 80's & 90's I find them embarassing and sometimes painfull to watch. I don't get that with Star Wars.
Except for that scene in EpV where Luke & Leia kiss. Yuk!

not true. in the original pilot (the cage) Spock was in it, but not first officer, and certainly not captain. that rank was held by Captain Pike, played by Jeffery Hunter.
I will always hold star wars with esteem, and a fair amount of sentimentality, but when all is said and done, its a fantasy saga aimed at children. Star Trek, on the other hand is actual sci-fi, and has much more depth. its an ongoing thing, whereas star wars was a 3 (no w 6) movie thing.
i honestly don't see how one can justifiably compare them. its like comparing a beautiful woman's tits to tits of a monkey.
similar, but by no means in the same ball park.

"THE TOP 10 LINES YOU'LL NEVER HEAR ON STAR TREK: T.N.G....."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
10) Worf: Klingons do *not* play tiddlywinks!
9) Picard: It's too bad we don't live in an
enlightened, civilized era like they had in the
twentieth century.
8) Geordi: Did you hear Wesley almost got kicked out
of the academy again? They caught him smoking pot!
Data: (looks puzzled) Pot? (brightens) Ah. Marijuana
- a narcotic obtained from the hemp plant. Cannabis.
Weed. Mary Jane. Grass. Reefer. Panama red...
7) Troi (to someone she is counseling): You've
obviously mistaken me for someone who cares! Now
get out!
6) Worf: Ouch! I got a paper cut!
5) a Starfleet admiral: Don't worry about it, Picard,
there's plenty of other ships in your quadrant.
4) Riker: Not tonight - I have a headache.
3) Worf: Do we have to beam down right now? The
Smurfs are on subspace T.V.!
2) Geordi: We've modified the warp coils by reversing
the polarity of the inverse geometric phase integrator
and adding a broad-band neutrino flux generator to
the hyper-magnetic field controls.
Riker: What will that do?
Geordi: Not a damn thing, but it sure as hell
*sounds* impressive!
1) Picard: Oh, screw the hailing frequencies. Fire
all phasers!
K, I have to chime in here, albeit with much giggling. I have no love for any ST other than the original series and Wrath of Khan. That being said I still love Empire, but Jedi ruined SW for me long ago. I enjoyed some of the new SW films, but too much eye candy, not enough story. I am however looking forward to the next SW film, which has to be good 'cause it has to end dark. Unless Lucas's daughters ask for a happy ending with another wank ewok-style celebration. gag. I must say though that my better half is a TNG fan and does not share my fanboy leanings for Kirk et al. Hey she actually has a Star Trek female uniform, hmm, I smell a new thread!
Ok.... ive thought about this long and hard...... I just cant decide, i like em both...... and im a bit of an info nut on both too, from Bomar Monks, Speaking Rodian and being able to play the Cantina Band on the piano.... to working knowledge of warp theory, Hysenburg Compensators, Lyssian Attackers, Asceton Assimilators and Zephram Chochraine.
VREEEEEOOOWWWwwwWWWW
*puts away lightsabre*
ZZZIZiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii PPP !
But now heres the bit where it all gets wierd..... Ive done work for Dave and Margret (Prowse), as clients, and im in reasonable touch with Patrick Stewart since he lives relatively near me when he's performing in Leeds :)
Now heres where it gets complex....
I know the cast of Red Dwarf, even danced on stage with Danny Jules to "Tongue Tied".... I know J M Strazinsky of Babylon 5 fame, and ive snogged Nicola Bryant (Peri from Dr Who)....
I DO GET AROUND....
I sent in a design for the Episode 1 star wars poster, direct to george, i sadly never got a reply, but its astounding how close the final poster was to my original concept art with the very few available images of the time.
I think theres a bias here though, Star Wars in its true sense has never been a Tv show (barring the droids cartoon and the appauling ewoks show); where as ST has been through many incarnations, from Kirk, through Picard, Sisco and Janeway... Tv shows all plus Movies ! That may change however as a Staw Wars tv show is on the books for a 2006 airing. Expect some kind of official announcement from Lucas after the Premiere of Episode 3 this May.
I find it hard to compare the two. They're told in two totally different ways. one is a serial action drama, the other a mythological epic. It's like comparing political thriller novels to greek mythology. different scales. both awesome though. but what tips the vote to ST for me though is nostalgia. Trek was there every day for me as a child. where as Star Wars was more of a spectacular event as a child. loved both to death, but Trek is like my favorite blanket. awwwwwwww.
Horny, I was raised by television as well, lol. and sci-fi ruled my world. And you guys have plenty of great sci-fi over there as well. I remember as kid being glued to the set watching Dr.Who, Tripods and Blakes 7. I can only imagine all the great programs that never made it to the U.S.
If you want to see a truely modern british scifi that knocks the spots off everything else...... try the newly released DVD's of RED DWARF (region 1). You wont regret it... its an 8 series comedy space opera :)
Dr Who sucked (unless Davros was on the show, thats was definitely a "behind the sofa" moment. Tripods was MONUMENTAL, even the theme tune still haunts me..... revolutionary stuff for the early 80's. Blakes 7 - a fun but bleak look at space featuring a spaceborne tripple head vibrator run by a 70's dancefloor hung on the wall and a small icecube with an attitude :)
heh.. great description of blakes 7 that... i used to love the puppet shows the most.. terrahawks springs straight to mind.. do you remember the creature "mash"? ... scary scary bastard.. he used to freak me out when i was little.. but i always loved the colonel.. tripods.. totally agree even now when i watch it.. it makes me shudder such a great great series.. and to see them tripods again in hl2 was just eeire.. i think it was inspired to put them in cos for fear factor alone they ruled.
red dwarf.. i totally 2nd horns opinion.. if you aint seen it.. find it.. well worth a look one heck of a funny series... and it coined the oft used cuss "you smeg head".
Red Dwarf is not only the best sci-fi show ever made it's the best - period. I too found Dr Who dull, especially when Tom Baker left. Tripods was cool as I was a teenager at the time and Blakes 7 was for me Star Wars on tv.
Red Dwarf didn't translate well in the US, it got all twisted and changed so much it was unrecognisable. Shame. The DVDs are the pride of my (rather extensive) collection.
Hornball-Uk
January 26th, 2005, 07:02 PM
Ive seen the US pilot for their version... it royally sucked, despite Mr Llewellyn (Kryten from the BBC original) being in it - it was subsequently cancelled. The original show took a stab at it too during season (4) i think... when the crew woke up in memory pods, and it was explained they could go back to their normal lives because they had lost the RED DWARF game.... a viewfinder outside the complex parodied the USA version. Course, a quick blast of lithium carbonate later, and they were all ok.......
DR. Who wasn't to bad when Tom Baker was on it. Did any of you ever watch Space Rangers? The pilot Jo Jo could fly me anytime!
What does everybody think about the new Battelstar Galacta? It seems to me to be a collection of very wel used & worn plots re writen to place them in a familiar setting. Not that the original was one of scifi's greatest
Please excuse my ignorance, but there was an american version of Red Dwarf? I am only familiar with a British series that was on PBS in the 80's. Is that the same one?
HornyToad, I too enjoyed Dr.Who. Unfortunately after Peter Davidson, what we got was sporadic at best. So I basically stopped watching after a few episodes of Collin Baker.
I don't know Space Rangers, I saw the Galactica mini-series from last year, and thought it was okay, but I think I was too heartbroken to give it a fair chance. I was a huge fan of the original series. and no it was by no means great, but for an 8 yr old it was the shit! I haven't watched the current Galactica yet. all I've heard are rave reviews. So I guess I should give it a shot.
I bought the new galactica on DVD - its now a coffee mat... what a complete waste of money....
Red Dwarf USA, no there was 1 pilot made, it never got beyond that, it just died on its feet.... so commercially you can only get the Uk Red Dwarf. I think ive got the pilot floating around like a wet turd on one of my dire collection cd's lol...
Dr Who was ok through Tom Baker, Peter Davidson and Colin Baker - but once that stupid fucknut comedian Sylvester McCoy got a hold if it, it also died a death - fortunately resurected in the form of a rather good Tv Movie recently.. and.. i believe a 2nd one is in the works.
Yep, the new Dr Who is on the BBC in April this year.
I don't remember Space Rangers at all for some reason, when was it on?
And despite being a big fan of the original I think the new Galactica is the best thing on tv for many years.
There were two Red Dwarf pilots made in the US and both were pretty bad.
Hornball-Uk
Farscape : Sux .... i got latched to Andromeda though.
why is there never this type of hype for a Trek film?
- Because Trek films are a known quantity, every other film sux......
Evidence:
Film 1: Pretty crap, not similar uniforms, pretty rubbish....
Film 2: ROCKED ... Good Old Montlebaan, space battles, suspense, death, and
the debut of the uniform that would become known as the TWOK suit.
Film 3: Slow... kinda sucked...... rescuing spocks brain.... enterprise blows up.
Film 4: Time Travel YAY !! - Great story, much needed humour injection and a new Ship
Film 5: The search for god.... and a vulcan mind control dude.. sexy but unconvincing
romulan, and a bunch of ppl digging holes in a dust planet.
Film 6: Klingons are back and kickin ass - top visuals, Ace story !!
Film 7: The handover, mad scientist, unknown force destroying shit, Kirk dies.
Film 8: bunch of plagued burnt looking ppl... shit fx, crap story
Film 9: The Borg are back - ASS KICKING Their way into the past.....
Film 10: Good fx, but the clone of picard is unconvincing, data dies.
Film 11: Ds9 / Voyager handover (we think).
No I am for Star Trek, I love/know most of the actors, they are really kind and play great! Star Trek had/has so much, for me it shows the way to the future.
But Star Wars is old. I mean I do watch it and like it but ST is better :P
Yeah a Voyager Film would be damn cool!!!!!!!
Hornball-Uk
January 27th, 2005, 09:02 PM
Yeah, but how could you top the whole Delta Quadrant thing without retreading old ground, or doing another Kirk/Picard type adventure ?
Ship goes into space > Emergency, USS whatever is the only one that can help >> They Go > See mean bad guy > Win ..... Whoopeee safe again.....
Klingons, Borg & Romulan have been done to death - wouldnt mind seeing a Cardassian thing based around the Obsidian Order though.....
Kathryn
January 27th, 2005, 09:08 PM
True, Cardassian around Obsidian Order would be intresting.
yep truth be told I don`t like the way the ST Movies tend. Always to Picard or Kirk in the middle of everything....
The crossover...let me guess. somethings with Generations or so..(Though I know the german title .lol) was quite okay. But Nemesis..well not worth a mention^^
I hope for Voyager. Cause ENT is not that famous....
So ya, girlygirl here I want to also put in my 2 cents.
I love start trek and star wars. Altought I do love them both, I still prefer, for movies, the Star WArs. I was extatic when they came out with Episode I and II and soon to be III. But my first love are still the original ones, EP IV, V and VI.
HOw many night have I got to bed dreaming of Luke Skywalker? I did halloween once as Princess Leya, Gawd she was hot. AND to think, this is a huge joke in my family, that my dad fell asleep during StarWars. Yep you read that right, he fell asleep , at the movies, enough to snore and he woke up at the end. My mother was fuming when she heard that, she would of loved to go.
Now don't get me wrong, the new Episodes are amazing, I am not one to go to movies but I sure as hell will go to those when they will come out. I still think that the first ones are the bomb!
And that's the end of my 2 cents!
Hornball-Uk
February 24th, 2005, 09:15 PM
Leya ?
Thats Leia Organa :) - and yes, sadly, Enterprise has been canx'd by the powers that be. Whos got money on there being a reprieve at the last minute like Bab5 ?
Hot news For Star Wars fans though. The Clone Wars cartoon shorts come out on DVD in March, this is set between ep's 2 and 3. And a live action Star Wars tv show spin off looks set to start filming back end of the year - hopefully no more kids lost in forrests with ewoks, or cartoon droids. ** Lets not even MENTION the AWFUL Xmas Specials at the Wookie household **
Star Wars Vs. Titanic
Date: Fri, 11 Jun 1999 15:33:07 -0500
"21 Reasons Why Star Wars Is Better Than Titanic"
1. The Titanic is big, but it doesn't have hyperdrive.
2. Yoda could use the Force to lift Titanic out of the water.
3. Leia is a princess, a senator, a freedom fighter, and Jedi material; Rose is just marriage bait.
4. Ewoks throw better parties than either first class or steerage.
5. When flying towards the Titanic, Wedge can't say, "Look at the size of that thing!" and really mean it.
6. It would be much scarier to get chased around the boat by a raving madman with a lightsaber as opposed to a handgun.
7. Titanic is egalitarian by portraying poor people as sympathetic characters. Star Wars is egalitarian by promoting bug-eyed amphibians to Admiral.
8. Said bug-eyed amphibious Admiral manages NOT to lose his ship.
9. We know Cal is the bad guy because he sneers at the poor and treats his fiancee like property. We know Darth Vader is the bad guy because he strangles people and blows up planets for fun.
10. Yeah, Leo can dance, but can he fly an X-wing?
11. Rose braves icy water to rescue her man. Leia braves Jabba the Hutt.
12. There are always enough escape pods in Star Wars.
13. Do you know what the Empire does to self-proclaimed "kings of the world?"
14. If Luke were handcuffed to a pipe below decks in a sinking ship, he would use the Force to get the key.
15. Nothing has the same sting as "I'd rather kiss a Wookie."
16. Han is frozen in carbonite and turned into a wall ornament. Leo simply freezes.
17. Han Solo would've steered clear of that stinkin' iceberg!
18. We knew the boat was gonna sink. But who could've anticipated, "Luke....I am your father."?
19. Stormtroopers blast big holes in stupid minor characters; everyone in Titanic was a stupid minor character.
20. When Star Wars was proclaimed coolest movie of all time by half of planet earth, George Lucas did not make a dork of himself at the Oscars.
21. Titanic morals: a. gamble, b. cheat on your husband, c. pose nude for pictures, d. premarital sex is OK if you're infatuated.
Star Wars morals: a. fight evil, b. do good, c. respect all life even if it's ugly and slithers, d. rescue princess, e. save planet.
10. In the Star Wars Universe weapons are rarely, if ever, set on "stun".
7. One word: Lightsaber
They made a stop at port Mos Eisley
To have a drink with Han
At the Star Wars, Star Wars Cantina
The weirdest creatures you've ever seena (here)
At the Star Wars, Star Wars Cantina
Music and blasters and old Jedi Masters at the Star Wars.....
His name was Solo
He was a pilot
With a blaster at his side
And a smile 12 parsecs wide
There with Chewbacca
He was a Wookiee
They met with Luke and Obi Wan
About the Millennium Fal-con
Docking bay 94
Storm troopers at the door
With the flash of Ben's Lightsaber
There was an arm on the floor
At the Star Wars, Star Wars Cantina
The weirdest creatures you've ever seena (here)
At the Star Wars, Star Wars Cantina
Music and blasters and old Jedi Masters at the Star Wars.....
(Spoken by Obi Wan while Copa bridge is played)
"Mos Eisley space port, you will never find a more wretched
hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious."
His name was Yoda
He was a muppet
That old Darth Vader was so bad
And by the way he is Luke's dad
Luke kissed his sister
His hand got severed
In a galaxy far, far, away
Luke has had a lousy day
Bo-ba Fett was so mean
Jabba had bad hygiene
Why didn't they all just relax
Back on Ta-too-ine
At the Star Wars, Star Wars Cantina
The weirdest creatures you've ever seena (here)
At the Star Wars, Star Wars Cantina
(As sung by master Yoda, on meeting Luke Skywalker).
YOUNG MAN, I saw your ship come down. I said
YOUNG MAN, now it's muddy and brown. I said
YOUNG MAN, put your weapon away, 'cause I
*MEAN* *YOU* *NO* *HARM* *I* *SAY*
YOUNG MAN, There's no need to feel fear. I am
YOUNG MAN, Welcome to Dagobah. He is
Imperial Rhapsody
(sung to Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody)
LANDO: This is the good life
This is a fantasy
Working on Bespin
An escape from Reality.
LEIA: Open your eyes
Stand up to these guys and see.
LUKE: I'm just a farmboy, I need some sympathy
Cuz who's my dad, I dunno
Little whine, little moan.
HAN: Anywhere the Force goes, doesn't really matter, to me
PIETT: Vader just killed a man.
Raised an arm up in the air
Now his life is no longer there.
Vader, we had just begun,
And now I've gone and lost the reb-el scum.
Vader, ooooooo.
Didn't mean to make you mad
If I'm not alive again this time tomorrow,
There'll be a new admiral, as if nothing ever happened.
YODA: Too late, my time has come,
Sends shivers down my spine
Body's aching all the time.
LUKE: Goodbye everybody, I've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and learn the Force.
PIETT: Vader, ooooooooo.
I don't want to die
I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all.
LUKE: I see a little silhouetto of a man
Palpatine, Palpatine, can it be the Emperor?
Thunderbolts and lightning, very very hurting me!
R2-D2, R2-D2,
R2-D2, R2-D2,
R2-D2, Where'd ya go? C-3PO O O O O O OH!
I'm just a farmboy, nobody loves me.
REBELS: He's just a farmboy, with a dead family.
Spare him this life of such mendacity!
HAN: Spice'll come, spice'll go. Jabba let me go.
JABBA: Bo shuda! (NO, we will not let you go)
HAN: Let me go!
JABBA: Bo shuda! (We will not let you go)
HAN: Let me go!
JABBA: Bo shuda! (We will not let you go)
HAN: LET ME GO!
JABBA: WILL NOT LET YOU GO!
HAN: LET ME GO!
JABBA: WILL NOT LET YOU GO!
HAN: LET ME GO!
JABBA: NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!
C3PO: Oh R2-D2, R2-D2, R2-D2, Come along.
LEIA: C-3PO has a rebel put aside for meeeee, for meeeeee,
for MEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
(Stormtroopers start headbanging)
LUKE: So you say you're the dear old dad of mine?
But you cut my hand off and left me to die!
Oh Vader, can't do this to me, Vader.
I know there's some good, I know there's still some good in you.
OBIWAN: May the Force be with you.
Use the Force to see.
May the Force be with you,
May the Force be with you, alwaaaaaaaaaaaaays.
HAN: Anywhere the Force goes, doesn't really mat-ter,
to meeeeeeee.
Top Ten Signs You're a True Star Wars Fan
10. When arguing Star Wars against Star Trek, you use the words 'Star Trek Sissy Boys' at least 15 times.
9. You believe President Clinton should increase its budget. (I'm sorry, wrong Star Wars!)
8. At a Star Wars collectibles convention, you purchase Gammorean Guard saliva.
7. You waste your time writing Star Wars Top Ten lists. (No comment)
6. You foolishly believe that Lucas will ACTUALLY make more Star Wars movies, when you know he's just saying that so people will buy the new Star Wars merchandise and books, then in a year he'll give his famous 'I don't feel like it' speech.
5. You would feed yourself to the rancor if it meant finding out the name of Anakin's wife.
4. You'd actually want a copy of that lousy Star Wars holiday special.
3. You stick up for Mark Hamill even when you know he's a bad actor.
2. You shell out 10 bucks for a magazine that describes the planet Tatooine.
1. You have recurring nightmares about Episodes 1-3 being about a dysfunctional family of Ewoks.
With all the talk of Star Wars re-released in 3D, here's some secret plans for the next 50 years...
2014: "The Empire Strikes Back" is re-released with all footage of Harrison Ford as Han Solo digitally removed. This necessitates certain plot changes. For example, instead of Han Solo being frozen, the film's climax has Darth Vader filling up an ice-cube tray.
2015: To ensure the films remain packed with the most state-of-the-art technology, all six "Star Wars" movies are re-released with new scenes featuring C-3PO bickering with the Sharper Image Faux Suede OttoMan 2.0 Human-Touch Calf and Foot Massager.
2017: "Star Wars" is re-released in an environmentally friendly version: The gas-guzzling Millennium Falcon is replaced by a Toyota hybrid Prius, the locale of the trash-compactor scene is changed to a recycling center, and the legion of Storm Troopers are replaced by college kids with clipboards badgering people to give money to Greenpeace.
2018: After breaking into Mike Nichols' home, Lucas re-releases "Attack of the Clones" incorporating the nude footage of Natalie Portman cut from "Closer."
2019: Peeved that "Titanic" is still the top-grossing movie of all time, Lucas replaces John Williams' "Star Wars" score with a continuous loop of Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On."
2021: Deciding to have Yoda reject the concept of the Force in favor of Kabbalah in "Attack of the Clones," Lucas digitally adds a red-string bracelet to the Jedi master's left wrist.
2025: He hardly cares what you think now, and he'll care even less in 2025: Lucas re-releases "Return of the Jedi" with every character dressed in the bikini Princess Leia wore at Jabba the Hut's place. Including Jabba.
2030: "The Empire Strikes Back" is re-released 100 percent in its original form, with the exception of a one-second scene featuring 350 new characters standing around in an intergalactic tavern chatting idly. (Action figures available from Hasbro.)
2032: Worried that people now view the kiss on the lips in "Stars Wars" between siblings Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker as incestuous, Lucas digitally inserts himself in Luke's place.
2034: Concerned that the quality of the acting wasn't quite how he'd initially envisioned it in the first trilogy, Lucas re-releases "Star Wars," "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi" with Mark Hamill replaced by Jared from the Subway commercials.
2037: To booster his claim that he's an independent filmmaker, Lucas re-releases "Return of the Jedi" with a new 30-minute subplot of Han Solo and Chewbacca tasting wine, meeting women and enjoying each other's company on a trip through the Santa Barbara wine country.
2041: While denying he's privy to any percentage of the merchandising profits, Lucas re-releases "The Empire Strikes Back" featuring a scene of Boba Fett announcing he's quitting the bounty hunter life and then whipping up a batch of Hasbro Easy-Bake My Little Pony cookies.
2048: Thanks to new holographic technology, "The Phantom Menace," "Attack of the Clones" and "Revenge of the Sith" are re-released in versions that allow Jar-Jar Binks to sit next to theatergoers and talk over all the scenes he's not in.
2055: The 111-year-old Lucas, realizing that all special-effects, 3-D and actors of any sort have diluted his original vision, re-releases "Star Wars" now simply featuring himself shouting out random lines from the script as he's fitted for a straightjacket.
Cool stuff... all courtesy of E Taiwan News!
Hi everyone.
This is a special request to any Star Wars fans who are living in the UK.
I am a member of a specialist site called The Private Universe. It's aim, is to inform UK based collectors of Star wars merchandise, collectables and toys.
It is run very informally and everyone can take part in it's goal. This month, we are running a competition called the Mad May Giveaway. We wish to find more members for our forum, as we currently only have about 70.
For any member who joins, and posts at least messages, get an entry into a multiple prize draw to win Star Wars goodies. I also get an extra entry for new member I recruit, (I know it's shameless isn't it) all you have to do is say "cloudcity sent me"
But please remember, it is not an adult forum like Pichunter.
It is a great little forum and news desk, one which I am proud to be part of. Very much like Pichunter only on a much smaller scale. All I ask is, if the terms apply to you, pop on over and have a look around - you might like it.
Thank you very much and please enjoy yourselves.
Wars is better, hands down.
Star Wars is a fantasy tale, while trek is more hard core sci fi. Wars is alot more accessable to the audience, and tells a story that just about anyone can relate to and enjoy. Good vs. evil, man vs. machine, the role of faith in ones life, romance, Wars has it all.
Not to mention, Yoda is better looking at 900 + years old than William Shatner is at 60 +. I still dont know how the old capt. got all that alien pussy.
Went to Midnight show with all the crazed hardcore fans. This film is DARK!!! I am very happy with it though. Anakin's fall to the dark side, is done in a way, that makes you feel more like he is the victim in a very tragic way. I think seeing this, you may feel different about the original trilogy, giving you a feel for why he is somehow redeemable in the end (always found that hard to swallow in Return of the Jedi, guy does one unselfish thing at the end, and all his murderous ways are forgiven). Now though, you can understand, its really like Anakin is the victim in the whole thing, I wont say how for those planning to see, but it is a truly brilliant piece of film making.
That being said though, it is very, very, dark, don't expect a light romp light episode I and II were. III is much darker then the Empire Strikes Back even, and that film ends on a very dark note as we all know. Revenge of the Sith is probably the second best chapter in the entire six part series, I still love Empire, and consider it the best single film ever made, but Sith is darn close.
"spoiler alert" "SPOILER ALERT" If you have not seen episode III.
I saw it again with my wife yeasterday, she came up with a realy interesting idea that I had not thought of. Think its possible that this Darth Plagous the Wise that that Palpentine speaks of, think it is possible that he is Anakin's creator? This maybe its even possible that Sidious was his appretice and he murdered him, mabye out of jealously because his master was creating a future evil side kick for himself? Its ambigous weather or not the "legend" he tells Anakin is true, or a lie. My wife's train of thought is very interesting though, if he could create life, and Anakin was a virgin birth, its seems likely.
That was in the script originally, that Plageus (sp?) and Sidious created Anakin. But Lucas dropped the idea at the last minute and softened the suggestion a bit.
1. The Falcon could outrun a cube easily.
2. Borg sphere vs a Death Star - result: lots of borg debris.
3. Borg shielding vs a lightsabre - result: hot butterknife anyone?
I could go on. I'm sad, not f**king sad.
I am a fan of both, so I am going to be one of those people..Trek was definatly out before wars. However trek did some creative liscensing from old sci fi movies. If u ever watch forbidden planet you will know what I am talking about. It is very trek like. However Lucas took some things and ideas from trek that inspired him to do wars. Without the success of trek from it's fans keeping it alive the public would not have gotten on board with star wars. ILM came out of star wars which ironically enough has done most treks sfx. I will admit that trek has gotten a little rehashed over the years, and will never be as good as Star Trek and the first six movies. Lucas did a wonderful job with the prequals, after I saw sith and everything came together I was like wow, but I do wish that he was able to make them in order from the beginning. I will say that one cannot exist without the other paving the way for certain aspects of each series, movie, or whatever..Sorry for the length just a fan of both franchises
Know whats funny though, Lost in Space as lame as it is was a bigger commercial success then Trek at the time. Trek was only on for three seasons, and each year was fighting for renewal with the network. Trek grew fans over the years with sindication, but honestly, it was not a huge hit out of the gate.
Also, I think Trek and Wars are so very two differnt animals. Neither one is realy much like the other IMHO.
I know that trek was not a huge success with the networks or with the fans at first. I will agree with u, they are very different, I was just saying that wars benifited from trek making sci fi popular by the mid 70's and trek benifited in movies and later series because ILM came out of star wars. I did not know however that lost in space was bigger commercialy than trek
Star Wars favorite movie used to be Empire, however Sith is in a close #2. Then again after seeing all of them I think that they are best looked at as a complete story and not one episode at a time...although any episode holds up pretty good on it's own.
As far as trek goes I am a fan of the original series...I like the other spinoffs but TOS is the best in my opinion by far...my favorite movies have to be 6 and 1. Since 2, 3, and 4 is a continueing story u cannot say one without the other 2.
I kinda agree NormanB, seen as a whole even The Phantom Menace makes sense - it actually is much more enjoyable.
Trek movies:
The second have of 2 is good. I like the flow of 3, especially the self destruct bit. I find 4 & 5 appalling. 6 mediocre.
7 was not bad, great battles. 8 leads the lotby a mile for me, the first twenty minutes is stunning. 9 was like an average episode of TNG and 10 was close behind 8.
