depends on what kind of bike you want... i prefer the crotch rockets personally. and yamaha and suzuki make the best. but out of those 2, yamaha takes he cake.

I have owned a few bikes over the years, Yamaha YB100 ( to pass bike test on) kawasaki 550 GT ( nice shaftdrive and good all-round for the UK type roads) 71 Triumph trophy 500 US East Coast spec.( commonish stateside but rare over here, ( Thanks! US Gov 1n 71 banning imports! ) Oh I also had a 72 daytona 500 for a while and also a Harley CR1000 from kentucky no less ! After a while I got into cars ,last bike was 350 Enfield (india made) bullet, and right now I am bikeless. Some stuff "borrowed" for working on ( well ya just have to roadtest them don't you, Kawasaki Z400,Z650,Z1000 Yamaha FJ1100 ( hummm we humans really wern't designed to go THAT fast ! )
I suppose if I were to pick one bike (an they were all good.but had various bad points) it would be the Kawasaki 550 GT.
Bikes that I am yet to own? maybe a Harley 883 or I have always fancied a Neval cossack! No don't laugh app. it has a reverse gear and...you can join two together an pull a plough !

Probably the best bike that I've ever ridden personally was a Norton Commando.
Then '49 Pan, and a 70's Kaw 900.

I'm fond of my 76 Triumph bonneville.

HD imho are overpriced due to "brand loyalty".

I've owned several good Motorcycles over the years. My first motorcycle (which I still own) is a 1974 Hodaka Dirt Squirt. Worn down many of a mountain trail with that bike. Others brands I've owned are, 1972 AMF HD 1200 Sportster, 1977 Kawasaki KZ900, 1974 Triumph Trident 750 and several Bultacos ... Mantadors and Pershangs.

Currently I own (other than the Hodaka) a Bultaco 250 M16 Mantador D series (manuf. between 1965 and '67) and a 1989 Honda 250 VTR. The Bultaco is a long term restoration project Which I'll use for extended overnight mountain trail riding (I need parts for this bike guys!) and the Honda 250 VTR is a recent purchase which I intend to use as a daily ride to save gas. According to the original owner, he got 80 mpg with it.

My favorite Bike is the 1977 Kawasaki KZ900. I wish I had never sold it. And I am particular to motorcycles made in the 1960s and 70s. To me that is when a motorcycle looked like a motorcycle and not an art form.

I have been fortunate enough to work in the motorcycle industry & have owned or ridden most bikes in the past 30yrs. From BSA Bantams, to Blade's & Busa's. The question though is "which brand is best" ......for looks it has to be a MV 750s. For reliability MOST Honda's ( but there boring & bland ) For that corrrr look & sound Ducati 916. For going anywhere havin a bit of fun & general solidness Yamaha FJ1200.

But the best bike ever built is the Honda 50cc step thru, they go for ever, can carry a man his wife, his mother in law (side saddle) a sack of potatoes, a basket of chickens & a young child sitting on his fathers lap. All this on dirt roads in Asia, running on god knows what mixture of fuel & being 30yrs old

Just a thought

Rob

SUZUKI DRZ all the way !!!!!!!!

sports bike's are just aload of plastic, fall apart with every speed hump and if you drop it then you have to re-mortage to repair it they may go fast but drz's go any where

loved my Katana 600 crouch rocket, but I was going to kill myself on it driving like a idiot in the traffic in my area so I traded for a crouch rocket on the water, a KAWI ultra 150. (less people to run into)
